In 2013, Brent Goodin started the first legal production of liquor in Hardin County, Kentucky since Prohibition.

Today, he runs one of the fastest growing craft distilleries in the “Bourbon Capital of the World”.

But after a few hours of studying their website and socials, I found 5 leaks in their system. But first - some context:

Brent is the founder of Boundary Oak Distillery, where they offer curated, premium craft beverages and guided tours.

They have 31K+ followers on Facebook and ~6,000 website visitors/mo.

These 5 leaks I found might be costing them:

- Hundreds (if not 1,000's) of customers
-$5K-10K/mo (estimate)

Let's walk through them and how I’d fix it (so you can avoid them too):

Leak No. 1: No email capture except a standard Contact Form.

This is a killer. Why?

🚫 Nobody wants to fill out multiple fields.

Plus, they want answers fast.

That's why I'd do this instead:

Create an opt-in. Only ask for first name and email.

And just like that - you have a way of capturing the eyeballs you’re getting.

Take a look at this example. On the left is their current sign up form. On the right is one I came up with in about 10 minutes. Reply to this email with the one you’d give your email for.

Leak No. 2: No way for people to purchase online.

The only way you can purchase their products?

🚫 A road trip, or good ole’ fashioned📱.

People want convenience, not friction.

Instead:

Create a simple Shopify, Stan store or Amazon storefront.

Don’t want to give up a % of sales?

Set it up through your website. Most of them have shop options.

- Quick
- Simple
- Convenient

Leak No. 3: No CTA’s on social posts

99% of their posts are descriptive, yet none actually ask the follower to do anything. The issue?

🚫 People won’t take action unless you ask them to.

Instead of ending a post with a platitude, do this instead:

“What’s your favorite place to enjoy a cold one?”

Ending every post with a question or action prompts the person seeing it to take the next step.

Whether that’s feeling more invested in your brand or making a purchase.

Help the algorithm help you.

Leak No. 4: No prices listed.

I get it. Not listing prices increases the feeling of exclusivity.

On the other hand…

🚫 People want to know what it’s going to cost.

If a business doesn’t publicly disclose what things cost, I’m skeptical.

Going back to Leak No. 2, if I’m not calling - I’m definitely not driving somewhere without knowing if I can afford it.

Instead:

List price ranges (by bottle size, if applicable).

It at least gives people an idea of whether or not something is $50 or $500.

It also makes them feel like you’re being more transparent.

Leak No. 5: The website “Call Now” buttons don’t work.

🚫 Broken links and long load times = #1 way to tank online retail.

People’s attention spans are short — 3-5 seconds short.

How do we fix this?

Make sure someone is checking your links 1X/week.

As they say, you only get one chance to make a first impression.

That's it!

These 5 upgrades can easily boost Brent’s monthly revenue by 5-10%.

Your turn:

Which of these will you apply to your own site and socials?

I’ve got one more leak that’s costing them even more, but I saved that just for Saturday during my Rural Writer Workshop. Make sure you’re registered👇
